THE STORY OF MAYOLA

Mayola came to be a band one beautiful day in the Spring of 2005. High school friends and on some level rivals they gathered in an attic on the east side of Enid, Oklahoma to do what they loved. Riley Jantzen, Antonio Laster, Travis Nichols and Madden Humphrey (the four original members of Mayola) had no idea that this band would be something that would last. Like all bands, Mayola has had their ups and downs. The first year of Mayola was by no means an easy one. With all the members residing in different cities, there was much down time and much frustration. Playing only over school breaks Mayola knew something had to change. So the band decided if the band was going to last, Mayola would have to be together.

In the summer of 2006, Mayola made the move to Stillwater, Oklahoma. Knowing very little about the area it was tough to tell how the move would go and if they would be accepted. To make a long story short, they were welcomed with open arms. Mayola was building momentum and it felt good. Later that year the band decided to add a fifth member, Bryan Thompson (also an Enid native). Along with Thompson came a whole new sound for the band, a large part in helping the band develop the sound they have today.

Having played shows throughout the state of Oklahoma and Texas, Mayola has made a good name for themselves. Known for their energetic stage presence and a driving, yet catchy sound, Mayola has played with acts such as The Ataris, Ludo, The Forecast and many others. Mayola also performed to a packed house at D-Fest 2007 and have been awarded the Woody Guthrie award from the Oklahoma Gazette for the Peoples Choice of 2007.

The future looks bright for Mayola and they are not planning on slowing down.
